Because I have a house on Nantucket Island, I often read books about Nantucket. This novel has everything I hate about typical romance books non existing plot line, superficial characters, over the top situationsI don t have time to list all of them Why can t we have interesting romance novels which can be just novels I know I shouldn t expect too much from a romance novel, but the historical facts in this novel are just outrageous The names of current stores and restaurants are accurat Because I have a house on Nantucket Island, I often read books about Nantucket. This novel has everything I hate about typical romance books non existing plot line, superficial characters, over the top situationsI don t have time to list all of them Why can t we have interesting romance novels which can be just novels I know I shouldn t expect too much from a romance novel, but the historical facts in this novel are just outrageous The names of current stores and restaurants are accurate, and some of the whaling histories are sort of true But, regency era Nantucket are dominated by The Society of Friends which looked down upon music and dancing The women never wore these revealing dresses Deveraux described The dominance of The Society started to decline after 1820, but not during the regency era. Also, the women on Nantucket were very independent and strong in those days They managed or run business while men were whaling Widows were not helpless like Deveraux described I know it s just romance, but if it s supposed to be a historical romance , I would like Deveraux to write somewhat accurate history I wouldn t like readers to believe that was a real Nantucket in early 19th century

I usually like Jude Deveraux s books enough to read most of them and even finish a lot of them, but I do find myself skimming quite frequently This one was about like that enjoyable but not great Interesting but not unique Many flaws in the internal logic of her time travel aspects, and somewhat trite in the romantic set ups CHIEF COMPLAINT Why, oh why, do romance authors think it s romantic for the female character to be a virgin at the age of whatever over 18 This character must I usually like Jude Deveraux s books enough to read most of them and even finish a lot of them, but I do find myself skimming quite frequently This one was about like that enjoyable but not great Interesting but not unique Many flaws in the internal logic of her time travel aspects, and somewhat trite in the romantic set ups CHIEF COMPLAINT Why, oh why, do romance authors think it s romantic for the female character to be a virgin at the age of whatever over 18 This character must be about mid twenties or older, so unless she grew up under a rock or in a religious cult, has a mental or physical disability or some other serious problem, being a virgin at that age in 2014 is ridiculous Not only that, but why is that romantic There is something so inherently disagreeably sexist and archaic about that it makes me want to throw those books across rooms and scream Otherwise, Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play

This book felt lackluster, without real chemistry or passion The time travel paranormal element didn t fit neatly into the plot and mostly became a distraction There was definitely no proper setup for it Basic setup Toby and Graydon meet at a wedding She can tell Graydon apart from his identical twin brother which, apparently, means they re destined for one another Might have been cute, if it had been followed up with anything else that convinced me these two needed one another And I me This book felt lackluster, without real chemistry or passion The time travel paranormal element didn t fit neatly into the plot and mostly became a distraction There was definitely no proper setup for it Basic setup Toby and Graydon meet at a wedding She can tell Graydon apart from his identical twin brother which, apparently, means they re destined for one another Might have been cute, if it had been followed up with anything else that convinced me these two needed one another And I mean aside from a poorly constructed past life drama The thing is, Graydon s the crown prince of a made up country and he has to marry someone else This type of conflict rarely ends well It usually ends with a good sweep and a rug and this story was no different The beginning of the story nearly lost me due to name confusion I was pelted with so many people all at once that I couldn t keep any of it straight And I felt like I was missing something, even though I had actually read the prequel Then Graydon plays hooky from being the crown prince to spend time with Toby That was fine He and Toby end up planning someone else s wedding together, but nothing between them felt particularly intense The characters themselves were part of the problem Toby is a virgin because she s never felt passion before I ve read that before and it always deserves an eye roll, but in this case I didn t feel like she was feeling passion now either Her initial reaction to Graydon was annoyance dislike It all had to do with the fact that her mom was desperate to marry her off, which never quite made sense to me on any level either the mother s motivations or the daughter s reaction Toby became highly reserved, so much so that it was hard to identify with her at all Graydon was also reserved, which I believe was supposed to make the compatible And in another story I probably would have bought into that, but not one that involves traveling through time, falling in love in a past life, and then changing the circumstances of that past life so they could be together then all the while struggling with the fact that they can t be together now until rug sweeping time I didn t care for the past life stuff at all I didn t see a strong enough connection between their troubles back then and their current troubles, and the solution was sufficiently different between the two cases that it rendered the past life encounters a total distraction and an excuse for them to make love in someone else s body All in all, not one of Deveraux s best

Originally reviewed for Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and Fantasy. There is just something special about Jude Deveraux, she writes these sweeping sagas full of grand gestures and forever love Full of normal people discovering a love beyond belief Of discovering who they are and where they truly came from She has this writing style that is hard to describe and yet totally and completely her own I know I could pick up a book with no cover, title or author information and after just a few pages Originally reviewed for Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and Fantasy. There is just something special about Jude Deveraux, she writes these sweeping sagas full of grand gestures and forever love Full of normal people discovering a love beyond belief Of discovering who they are and where they truly came from She has this writing style that is hard to describe and yet totally and completely her own I know I could pick up a book with no cover, title or author information and after just a few pages recognize it as Ms Deveraux s work It s a gift to us all And For All Time proves that once again, Ms Deveraux is a treasure. For All Time is Book two in her Nantucket Brides Trilogy another branch in the Montgomery Taggert series While we don t see too much of the other Montgomerys and Taggerts we have grown to love we do see some of them AND their family dynamics, history and legends remain strong Toby Wyndam has escaped an overbearing mother who constantly harps on her Who expects her to marry and marry well After years of verbal abuse she has finally found a place to call home Amongst the eclectic individuals that call Nantucket home Best friends with one of The Kingsleys of Nantucket she is sure in who she is And yet somehow she has been roped in to coordinating the wedding of Alix Mardsen and Jared Kingsley She s having fun but that cute Montgomery cousin of his keeps staring at her.Graydon Montgomery, Heir to the throne of Lanconia The Princess, The Maiden has covered for his brother their entire lives It s second nature to him and since they are identical twins it always works Except Toby Wyndam can tell them apart Family legend states that the one who can tell you apart is the one destined to be your true love The Taggerts and Montgomerys are obsessive about this. to the point of sometimes not even acknowledging a spouse who can t tell them apart. Graydon is astounded, he is promised to be married to a member of Lanconian aristocracy. this American woman can mean nothing to him And yet he can t look away, he can t just turn away he has to get to know her Calling in his markers with his brother, Graydon manages to get one week. One week to discover just who this woman is but he knows even then he will have to walk away In typical Deveraux fashion there is so muchto this story than just Prince meets commoner The first week these two spend together is a joy of getting to know each other but when real life makes an odd appearance the two discover that the depth of their feelings goes way beyond friendship and when the mysteries of Nantucket make themselves known, Toby and Graydon discover that theirs has been a doomed love for a very long time The choices these two have to make can be heartbreaking and yet each discovers a true love that allows for the right choice over and over again Until they have to decide, is this really the right choice An interesting set of circumstances to be sure Once again we are entertained with some truly enjoyable secondary characters and many people who are just not who we think they are And of course, both Graydon and Toby have to learn that sometimes almost always things are not what we think they are Ms Deveraux s work always and I mean always makes me sigh Another wonderful story Another must read.ShauniThis review is based on the ARC of Take Me, provided by netgalley and Edelweiss I forgot and requested it from both sites and is scheduled to be released on July 1, 2014

Frankly, I am not sure just how to grade this book I am not sure I liked it I have read many of the other books the author has written and have liked most, not all, of them I am not sure what exactly I did not like about this book Suffice it to say, it will never be one of my favorites Graydon is immediately stricken with Toby when he spies her at a wedding When they meet for the first time, he is evenattracted to her, and, the reader learns, she is finding him equally attractive Th Frankly, I am not sure just how to grade this book I am not sure I liked it I have read many of the other books the author has written and have liked most, not all, of them I am not sure what exactly I did not like about this book Suffice it to say, it will never be one of my favorites Graydon is immediately stricken with Toby when he spies her at a wedding When they meet for the first time, he is evenattracted to her, and, the reader learns, she is finding him equally attractive The biggest obstacle they face is the fact that he is the Crown Prince of Laconia, destined to become its king, and betrothed to a young woman there, who hails from a well situated family who has given and done much for the country In addition, Toby is determined not to fall head over heels over any man and prefers she and Graydon remain friends during his extended stay on Nantucket The book paints a very unrealistic picture of a Crown Prince today, from a small but vitally important country who provides the US with some exotic mineral the country desperately needs This background came across as very unrealistic and not well thought out to me As the story progresses, there are numerous instances where Toby alone, or along with Graydon, experiences what may be time travel to another era, but may really only be dreams The way the author integrates these episodes into the rest of the story left me wondering, often than not, when the event was really taking place, how the event could have happened or what era the book was supposed to be in at that moment While on Nantucket, Toby s twin fills in for him in Laconia, and there are some events as well as the way they handle them which were far beyond what I would see as realistic I have read many other books by this author, and I enjoyed reading most of them and loved them However, this book jut did not do it for me I found the story a bit confusing at times The time frames in the plot, as I said were not done as well as they could have I also did not like or enjoy many of the characters who came and went throughout the story The first half of the story went muchsmoothly than the latter half, and that may have been because most of the paranormal events instances happen in the second half Before reading the book, I had not read the first book in the series, and that may have been part of my problem, though I sincerely found the book okay as a stand alone book and did not need the first book to understand the story The book will appeal to the author s readers and those who enjoy romance without being concerned that the book is unrealistic and often defies common sense and logic I received this from NetGalley to read and review
