I m a huge lover of Western novels and Ghost Marshal ranks right up there with the top ones The story was great, it kept moving and was full of action and suspense I enjoyed the budding romance between the two main characters It was great how they each had to find their strengths and deal with their demons literally for one of them as the story evolved I whole heartedly recommend this book and will be looking for the next one.

I ll confess right up front that I ve never been a huge fan of the Western genre, aside from the odd film adaption like Shane or Ride Lonesome Still, I really liked what John Hamilton did with his Prohibition era historical fiction novel, Isle Royale, so I was willing to give Ghost Marshal the benefit of the doubt I m glad I did As with his previous novel, Hamilton has done his homework He gives you a real sense of Deadwood, SD, and environs both as a place and a time and a bit of I ll confess right up front that I ve never been a huge fan of the Western genre, aside from the odd film adaption like Shane or Ride Lonesome Still, I really liked what John Hamilton did with his Prohibition era historical fiction novel, Isle Royale, so I was willing to give Ghost Marshal the benefit of the doubt I m glad I did As with his previous novel, Hamilton has done his homework He gives you a real sense of Deadwood, SD, and environs both as a place and a time and a bit of sly homage to the HBO series Deadwood Historical characters appear not just as name checks, but as key movers and shakers in the plot And what a plot Almost from the moment his heroine arrives in Deadwood in search of her father, alarums and excursions ensue, culminating in a massive showdown worthy of the weird Western genre.Hamilton plans to dowith these characters Without spoilers, I ll say that the novel did not end in the sort of sequel cliffhanger I expected, so bonus points for originality I m waiting to see where he takes it from here And how manynoses get broken Lots of broken noses in the Weird West As a parenthetical to those who liked the Young Adult nature of Isle Royale, take note that Ghost Marshal is written by a grown up for grown ups

This was an interesting twist on the Wild West with a very dishy Wild Bill turning up to help a young lady who is not to be messed with This is not my usual fare as far as books go but I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely readin the series Exciting and quite a bit of fun.
