About the Author: Fern Michaels

Fern Michaels isn t a person I m not sure she s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence Fern Michaels is what I DO Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was a dinky little thing weighing in at four and a half pounds However, I answer to Fern since people arecomfortable with a name they can pronounceAs they say, the past is prologue I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job Those were his exact words I didn t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like The library was a magical place for me It still is to this day Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book For some reason that didn t intimidate me As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does Guess what, I don t have that husband anyGuess what else I wrote books, most of them New York Times Best SellersMoving right along hereSeveral years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in moved to South Carolina I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time It was a breeze The kids were all on their own at that point The dump was a year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate This ghost has been documented by previous owners Mary Margaret as we call her, is a friendly She is also mischievous It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn t like my coffee cups They would slide off the table or counter or else they d break in the dishwasher I bought red checkered ones All are intact as of this writing She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at in the am at least once a week When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day She doesn t spook the dogs I always know when she s around because the five of them line up and look like they re at a tennis match As of this writing we re co habiting nicelyMost writers love what they do and I m no exception I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper I love breathing life into my characters I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that s what I had to do to get to this point in time It s another way of saying it doesn t matter where you ve been, what matters is where you re going and how you get there The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe itI ve been telling stories and scribbling for years I hope I can continue for another years It wasn t easy during some of those years As I said, I had to persevere My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot She said when God is good to you, you have to give back For a while I didn t know how to do that When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels Foundation READ FERN MICHAELS FULL BIOGRAPHY HERE.

because her father was in the military She came back to Chula Vista, CA, 4 years later and could find no trace of Felix Sanchez She tried to find him with no luck Agnes moved to Hollywood to become an actress and changed her name to Ariel Hart She was now nearing 50 and her housekeeper, Dolly, was also her best friend She was having trouble finding a job Dolly and Ariel both noticed some spots on her face She noticed her face was becoming sore so she went to the doctor thinking that she had an abscessed tooth She found out that she needed surgery to remove several growths on her face She knew that she was through with making movies now She didn t look too bad but the dimples were enough that she knew she wouldn t be in front of a camera anyWhile she was recovering, her agent bought her a trucking business She and Dolly moved back to where she lived when she met and married Felix She had trouble with some of the guys who worked for her because they had trouble accepting a female boss She fired one of the bully leaders She and Dolly took truck driving lessons and computer lessons They learned as much as they could about the business in order to run it to the best of their ability Ariel was well liked by the actors and actresses in Hollywood because she cared for people One of the people she helped out was Carla Simmons Ariel paid for to go through rehab and gave her money when she needed it Carla always said she would pay Ariel back but Ariel wasn t concerned She had plenty of money Her biggest trucking customer was Lex Sanders She didn t know it but Lex had also changed his name He grew up as Felix Sanchez He worked for a man who left him his property when he died He had paid for Felix to go to college After his death, Lex took his name and became Lex Sanders Lex had never married and he had never met anyone he wanted to marry either, until he met Ariel Thethey were around each other, the stronger their attraction to each other grew Ariel hired another detective agency to find Felix with no luck Lex hired a different agency to help him locate Agnes Neither agency found the person they were looking for Felix still had his original marriage certificate It was never filed in the USA so it couldn t be located He took the certificate to his lawyer and asked him to file for a divorce because he had decided he wanted to marry Ariel Ariel s truck started being hijacked They thought it was the disgruntled worker until the did some research and found out a gangster had purchased property nearby and was trying to put some of the local business out of work Ariel fought back and was working with some FBI agents She figured out they were fake agents and got rid of them She then called in the real FBI and they started to help Ariel arranged to have a lot of actors and actresses come pick the ripe avocados for Lex and the local farmers They managed to get past the machinations of the neighbor He had paid the regular workers to not help the local farmers They hijacking cost the insurance for the trucks to be cancelled The actors and actresses got all the crops picked and loaded on the trucks Ariel s idea had let the local farms survive another year Ariel and Lex had wanted to sleep together but something kept coming up to cause interference The biggest thing was a dog that Lex had talked Ariel into getting He was super protective of Ariel and didn t let Lex get too close to Ariel They had to convince Snookie that Lex was a friend That took time After the actors and actresses all left Chula Vista, Snookie let Lex spend the night with Ariel Before they ended up together, they had both figured out who that they were Felix and Agnes There was so much about the other person that reminded them of the other person that each was something every day to keep a promise to Lex She make a book of wishes where she wrote down a wish every day One of her wishes was that she would be able to tell someone about Felix one day She often This book could have been a little better Slow to begin and anti climactic at the end After the big climax, it trailed on and on The center of the book was fine and I enjoyed the interplay among the characters, but the beginning and end both need work.

Fern Michaels books are always good for a cute and sweet romance This one I do confess was a little slower than her others and it lacked some of the usual robust romance and the ending was a little far reaching for me Ariel is a beautiful movie star , who at 50, needs to face the reality of starting over She never forgot her one true love in life and needed to move on Ariel and her best friend and confidante, Dolly are given just that, a new lease on life Leaving her glamorous Hollywood Fern Michaels books are always good for a cute and sweet romance This one I do confess was a little slower than her others and it lacked some of the usual robust romance and the ending was a little far reaching for me Ariel is a beautiful movie star , who at 50, needs to face the reality of starting over She never forgot her one true love in life and needed to move on Ariel and her best friend and confidante, Dolly are given just that, a new lease on life Leaving her glamorous Hollywood life behind , she meets a sexy and wealthy rancher who is all so familiar

Not Worth the TimeGenerally, I can read the books written by this author They are similar in style and content Having read several, I don t have high expectations of great writing or thought provoking plots However, this is by far the worst one I have read It appears it probably took only a couple hours to write It had no depth, and I had no feelings about any of the characters It was silly but not in a good way In addition, it contained several typos and did not have needed transitions Not Worth the TimeGenerally, I can read the books written by this author They are similar in style and content Having read several, I don t have high expectations of great writing or thought provoking plots However, this is by far the worst one I have read It appears it probably took only a couple hours to write It had no depth, and I had no feelings about any of the characters It was silly but not in a good way In addition, it contained several typos and did not have needed transitions So, don t waste your time reading this
