I absolutely loved this romantic suspense story between pen pals who finally meet Harry is a Marine who is suffering from PTSD and is sent home for the Christmas holiday He looks up his pen pal who he has never met in person, schoolteacher Daisy, only to discover that she has a Secret Santa stalker who is sending her horrible gifts and letters Harry vows to protect the woman he is coming to care deeply for I loved Harry and Daisy, they were perfect for each other and made such a wonderful co I absolutely loved this romantic suspense story between pen pals who finally meet Harry is a Marine who is suffering from PTSD and is sent home for the Christmas holiday He looks up his pen pal who he has never met in person, schoolteacher Daisy, only to discover that she has a Secret Santa stalker who is sending her horrible gifts and letters Harry vows to protect the woman he is coming to care deeply for I loved Harry and Daisy, they were perfect for each other and made such a wonderful couple The cast of characters was fantastic, including Daisy s fellow faculty members and students Special mention goes to Daisy s three truly irresistible dogs Caliban, Muffy, and Patch Great suspense and action in this one, too

Yawn Unfortunately, that was my overriding response to most of this romantic thriller I had to keep urging my eyes to stay open for one extra chapter It s a very slow paced affair. The plot has Master Sergeant Harry Lockhart returning home from deployment after serious injury The doctors aren t sure he s psychologically or physically ready to return to active duty for the time being Harry seeks out Daisy Gunderson, a schoolteacher who had become his pen pal when she got her students to start Yawn Unfortunately, that was my overriding response to most of this romantic thriller I had to keep urging my eyes to stay open for one extra chapter It s a very slow paced affair. The plot has Master Sergeant Harry Lockhart returning home from deployment after serious injury The doctors aren t sure he s psychologically or physically ready to return to active duty for the time being Harry seeks out Daisy Gunderson, a schoolteacher who had become his pen pal when she got her students to start writing to Harry s unit as a classroom project Daisy s letters kept Harry sane while deployed, and he hopes she can do the same now that he needs to once again prove he s got his wits together However, messy, vibrant and hug giving Daisy isn t the woman he expected, and he doesn t know how to act around her Worse, she s being stalked by a sinister Secret Santa, who is leaving her nasty little gifts and sexually explicit threats at her place of work As the feelings develop between the two of them, Harry appoints himself as Daisy s protector. While I have utmost regard and admiration for those who who put themselves in the line of fire to protect their country, I admit I m not the greatest fan of stories featuring heroes suffering severe PTSD, the way Harry is here I mean, it is really severe, with Harry getting numerous flashbacks, disappearing into memories, acting very erratically, unexpectedly shouting at Daisy, and generally generating a lot of work which Daisy takes on without batting an eyelid, bless her heart His behaviour in the first half, indeed, often felt like the actions of a dangerous stalker Harry s numerous issues with his PTSD became the focus of the story, not the romance or the thrills. And the thrills were lacking, believe you me This is s l o w The sinister Secret Santa only pops up now and again Granted, when he does, the book does generate a little suspense If there had beenof that, and less of Harry being a borderline manic depressive, this would have worked better I feel awful saying that, because I know what the author was trying to do in showing Harry s progression from broken war vet to healed man, but it drowned out every other aspect of the story Oh yeah, and the identity of the Secret Santa is exceedingly obvious.Obviously, I loved Daisy s service dogs that she had fostered, especially the Belgian Malinois, Caliban Caliban s bond with Harry perhaps touched methan Harry s romance with Daisy, which is a bit of a problem There were other issues, such as stupidity of characters, that took me out of the story Daisy accepting a stranger s word that he s her penpal without verifying it at all before letting him into the house, or Daisy not reporting her Santa Secret gifts to the police straight away, or staying behind in an abandoned school when she knows she has a stalker. And what is with that title Mistletoe plays zero part in the story, other than being mentioned just a couple of times Ultimately, I was unable to enjoy the suspense or the romance, because my attention was being diverted by too many other elements that had nothing to do with suspense or romance

Terrific book that I read in one sitting It opens with Harry, who was injured by an IED, being told by his doctor that he needs to take some time off to deal with everything that has happened to him Once he has gotten his head on straight, the Marine Corps will decide if he is ready to go back on duty or if he will be discharged I ached for Harry because, other than his sister Hope, the Marines have been his home and his family for seventeen years He can t picture his life outside the Corp Terrific book that I read in one sitting It opens with Harry, who was injured by an IED, being told by his doctor that he needs to take some time off to deal with everything that has happened to him Once he has gotten his head on straight, the Marine Corps will decide if he is ready to go back on duty or if he will be discharged I ached for Harry because, other than his sister Hope, the Marines have been his home and his family for seventeen years He can t picture his life outside the Corps One thing that he believes will help is meeting Daisy, the pen pal whose letters were an integral part of his survival He has a mental picture of the angel who he believes can help him heal.Daisy is a high school English teacher She is outgoing, friendly, and has a huge heart She loves bringing out the best in her students and helping them achieve their goals She has also received creepy gifts from someone who calls himself Secret Santa These gifts stir up old memories of the ex boyfriend who tried to kill her several years earlier.I loved the first meeting between Harry and Daisy He showed up on her doorstep just as she had spotted suspicious footprints in the snow outside her home Though initially nervous about the stranger at her door, once she found out who he was, her attitude changed completely I loved her joy at finally meeting him, and how she hugged him so fiercely Poor Harry was confused and overwhelmed She wasn t anything like his mental picture of her, which upended his plan to have her help him But even as he worked to extricate himself from her, he could see that something bothered her I liked that she was comfortable enough with him to ask for his help What he found made his protectiveness kick in.I loved the development of the relationship between Daisy and Harry His protectiveness won t let him leave her vulnerable, and he insists on staying close to her That closeness also opens him up to her caring nature, and it isn t long before the walls around his heart start to crumble I loved her empathy for the things he s going through and how she shares her experiences to help him work through his pain Thanks to the letters they had exchanged, there was already a deep friendship between them Added to that is their intense attraction to each other I loved seeing that attraction bloom and with it a deeper connection Harry has some trouble believing that Daisy would want a physically and mentally messed up guy like him, but Daisy is unwavering in her belief in him The ending was deeply emotional, and I loved Harry s gift to Daisy. The suspense of the story was fantastic The creepiness of the gifts that Daisy received was chilling, and the fear they caused her was palpable The escalation of the stalker s activities added to the tension The scene after the basketball game showed the danger that Daisy was in The identity of the stalker came as a surprise as it was not the one I thought it was The final confrontation was a nail biter and had me glued to the pages until it was all over Harry s part in it was fantastic, and I loved his unexpected partner.I loved all of Daisy s rescue dogs, but the one who really had my heart was Caliban I loved the way he took to Harry, which also helped Harry with his grief over the loss of his dog There were some terrific scenes with Harry and the dogs I also loved seeing various characters from previous books show up in this one First and foremost was Harry s sister, Hope, and her husband Task Force Bride Assorted members of the KCPD made their appearances during the investigation into the stalker

I always know I m going to enjoy a Julie Miller book, and unsurprisingly I loved this one I didn t catch on until I started reading that our hero, Harry, is the younger brother of Hope Lockhart from Task Force Bride , so it s best to have read Hope s book first, but not essential.I adored Harry and Daisy Poor Harry is suffering from PTSD after losing his team and his beloved dog in battle Harry is left scarred from the incident, and is given mandatory time off to recover from the mental and I always know I m going to enjoy a Julie Miller book, and unsurprisingly I loved this one I didn t catch on until I started reading that our hero, Harry, is the younger brother of Hope Lockhart from Task Force Bride , so it s best to have read Hope s book first, but not essential.I adored Harry and Daisy Poor Harry is suffering from PTSD after losing his team and his beloved dog in battle Harry is left scarred from the incident, and is given mandatory time off to recover from the mental and emotional scars he s still sporting.Daisy, who knows Hope, started writing to Harry, and in his mind he had a picture of her as a calm, serene lady whom he secretly called his angel When he meets her in person, though, she s nothing like that she s a talkative whirlwind with purple streaks in her hair She loves to hug people, and he finds the wall he s built around himself and his heart starting to thaw.I loved that Daisy took charge in their relationship she kissed him first, she took the lead the first time they had sex which Harry needed, because he found himself unable to believe she d want to be with him because of his appearance and his PTSD that affected his daily life Daisy is sweet and a little bit sassy, and completely unaware of how attractive she is to men not only does she have a crazy stalker, who turns out to be completely insane, but one of her students also fancies himself in love with her.Harry works on getting through his PTSD because he wants to be the man he thinks Daisy deserves She already loves him for who he is, but gives him the space to do the healing he so desperately needs I do love that Harry was the one to express his love first I also loved seeing Hope and Pike pop up every now and then this book takes place a few years after their one, and they have a toddler son and another baby on the way.If you haven t read Julie Miller s books, you re missing a treat
