3.25 Stars This was a sweet feel good romance book It s a pretty straight forward storyline that has some fluffy moments to put a smile on your face This is a debut book from Piccoli I thought the story was decent but it did feel like a debut The story is about Nat who is the lead singer in an indie rock band After getting her heart broken, she is suffering from writer s block for her new album When she meets a cute pastry chef, Nat wonders if this is the inspiration she needs to get her 3.25 Stars This was a sweet feel good romance book It s a pretty straight forward storyline that has some fluffy moments to put a smile on your face This is a debut book from Piccoli I thought the story was decent but it did feel like a debut The story is about Nat who is the lead singer in an indie rock band After getting her heart broken, she is suffering from writer s block for her new album When she meets a cute pastry chef, Nat wonders if this is the inspiration she needs to get her life and career back on track.I do have to admit I struggled in the beginning of the book The writing and flow almost seemed to go at a staccato pace that was uncomfortable for me On top of that there were a lot of jokes between band mates that felt very juvenile These were supposed to be people in their late 20 s early 30 s and it feltlike a bunch of 18 year olds at times Luckily, I did notice a difference in the writing as the book went on The frenetic pace of the writing calmed down and so did some of the bad jokes There still were a few bad ones, but there were actually a few jokes that finally hit It seemed like Piccoli foundof her groove in the second half of the book. The romance was very sweet The characters did have some chemistry and I liked them together This book is low on angst Besides a few issues it is mostly a fluffy feel good romance This was a debut book that definitely had some bumps but it did get better as the book went on If you are looking for a fluffy, sweeter read, this might be for you I would give Piccoli another shot and hopefully she will keep on improving An ARC was given to me for a honest review.

I need to be honest I really hate leaving negative reviews, especially for debut authors, and evenso when I m the first reviewer, butIt s not that this book was bad, it just isn t my taste Piccoli has promise, but straight from the outset, her writing style felt very juvenile to me Traditionally, I m a huge fan of novels with musicians as a MC, but even that theme didn t pull me in to this read The characters felt young, the humor didn t hit the mark for me, and I just couldn t fi I need to be honest I really hate leaving negative reviews, especially for debut authors, and evenso when I m the first reviewer, butIt s not that this book was bad, it just isn t my taste Piccoli has promise, but straight from the outset, her writing style felt very juvenile to me Traditionally, I m a huge fan of novels with musicians as a MC, but even that theme didn t pull me in to this read The characters felt young, the humor didn t hit the mark for me, and I just couldn t find a rhythm with this read It s quick though took me around an hour to read , and has very low angst, so maybe your mileage will vary Thankfully, each of us has our own tastes, and yours might not line up with mine This is still a decent read, but didn t exactly light any fires or leave me wantingAfter glancing back at the editor, who also just isn t my personal preference for style of writing things made a bitsense To each their own though, and I will give Piccoli s next book a fair shot For me, this one came in at an even 3 stars Many thanks to Bella Books for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review

Quite nicely done for a debut novel Piccoli is good in character development There is a large cast of characters here, including a cat, but all of them are rather well drawn I liked the protagonists and their tender sweet romance The breakup conflict is kind of weak though and seen a hundred times before My biggest objection is plot development pacing It is very uneven, and consists of repeated unnecessary rushing and stretching I occasionally found myself bored during stretched parts La Quite nicely done for a debut novel Piccoli is good in character development There is a large cast of characters here, including a cat, but all of them are rather well drawn I liked the protagonists and their tender sweet romance The breakup conflict is kind of weak though and seen a hundred times before My biggest objection is plot development pacing It is very uneven, and consists of repeated unnecessary rushing and stretching I occasionally found myself bored during stretched parts Lack of experience, I believe, but in my opinion the editor is supposed to intervene in such situations.Regardless of my objections, this is a sufficiently enjoyable first novel, and I will certainly read the author s second one I think that she has the potential to do better.3 starsMarch 10, 2019 A review copy of this book was provided by the publisher

This was a great outing from a first time writer It has been years since I have picked up a romance novel Honestly, I couldn t say no to this one once I realized who the author was I have followed this writer over her career for almost 2 decades now, and I found this book to be much like her writing in other venues There is a really natural flow to StM It felt familiar in the best of ways, while still bringing freshness into the genre And while I don t KNOW know the author, I can say that This was a great outing from a first time writer It has been years since I have picked up a romance novel Honestly, I couldn t say no to this one once I realized who the author was I have followed this writer over her career for almost 2 decades now, and I found this book to be much like her writing in other venues There is a really natural flow to StM It felt familiar in the best of ways, while still bringing freshness into the genre And while I don t KNOW know the author, I can say that she has really honed the craft of making readers feel not only at ease, but engaged from the word go This book is no exception A couple things really stood out for me1 Moments of actual laugh out loud joy that I could relate to so much I mean who doesn t say ridiculous things when they are with their friends, right 2 I am not a reviewer of many things sometimes ifbugs me enough I will review a product I purchased I got this Goodreads account almost a decade ago, and this is my first review here My New Years resolution was to try and be aengaged person when it came to supporting things I like, so here I am doing just that That this book not only reminded me of this, but was great enough to have me follow through speaks volumes no pun intended I hope that you will enjoy this book as much as I did This was a fast, fun read that gets a thumbs up from me

I finished this book about a week ago, but I ve been waiting to write a review because I wasn t sure how I wanted to phrase it It s a good book, for a debut author, with a cute story 3 5 stars, I liked it However, I had a couple issues with the writing that prevented me from giving it a better rating First, the chapters are short Really short I don t usually mind short chapters, but a book that s 220 pages long shouldn t have 50 chapters It makes the story feel choppy, which made it impos I finished this book about a week ago, but I ve been waiting to write a review because I wasn t sure how I wanted to phrase it It s a good book, for a debut author, with a cute story 3 5 stars, I liked it However, I had a couple issues with the writing that prevented me from giving it a better rating First, the chapters are short Really short I don t usually mind short chapters, but a book that s 220 pages long shouldn t have 50 chapters It makes the story feel choppy, which made it impossible for me to fully immerse myself in what s happening. That brings me to my second point I wish it would have been longer I m a fan of short books They re perfect for plane rides, and don t take up a ton of shelf space But the story that was being told here didn t fit well with the shorter book format There was a lot of telling the reader what happened instead of showing it happen Instead of just telling us that they texted each other for a couple weeks show us those conversations It makes the relationshipbelievable and organic when you see it unfolding instead of being told that it s unfolded Fleshing out those moments would have helped solve the issue of short, choppy chapters Again, it was a fun read and a decent start I would definitely give Piccoli s next book a read to see if it improves

I adore this book It s romantic, funny, human, diverse, and so manythings I always look for in a lesbian romance novel but so rarely find And just when Nat and Maddie get to the point in their story where other books might call it a day, Piccoli doubles down and delivers a second half that is even better than the first Above all else, what really makes this book such a great read is that Piccoli s fierce love for and dedication to the LGBTQ community shines through on every page She is I adore this book It s romantic, funny, human, diverse, and so manythings I always look for in a lesbian romance novel but so rarely find And just when Nat and Maddie get to the point in their story where other books might call it a day, Piccoli doubles down and delivers a second half that is even better than the first Above all else, what really makes this book such a great read is that Piccoli s fierce love for and dedication to the LGBTQ community shines through on every page She is a very welcome addition to the world of fiction, and to my bookshelf
